FAQ’S

Can my system be repaired under warranty?

Maybe. It depends on what is wrong with your system. If the inverter(s) or panels have issues that are considered manufacturer’s defects and are still under their warranty, then the manufacturer will generally ship a replacement for no cost.

Who pays for the labor to replace equipment under manufacturer’s warranty (as above)?

Any qualified installer can do the work. The tough part is getting the manufacturer to pay the technician the full amount. The manufacturer may offer $100 as a labor re-imbursement, but the technician might have to drive 2 hours each way and use a boom lift to access your roof——TWICE. The first time might be to determine the problem and the second time might be to replace the faulty item. $100 is not nearly enough to cover that, and the property owner would have to understand this prior to initiating the repair.

What happens if the solar panels I have are no longer made and I need a replacement?

This has happened. In some cases, the manufacturer has an inventory of older model solar panels that are only available for warranty replacement. They will not “sell” a panel to someone whose panel was damage by hail or a tree limb. In that case, finding the replacements online (even if they are used) is possibly the only option. If there is a way to get the panel(s) replace under warranty, Solar Medic would find it. Panels that are more than a year or two old are unlikely to be readily available through normal distributors.

When you do a residential solar inspection, what do you check?

The Solar Medic technician will check the electrical panel, disconnect devices, and other switch gear for discoloration, improper connection, and thermal hot spots (a sign of a bad connection). The connection in your electrical panel may be to a breaker or what is called a “line side tap” where there is no breaker. Line side taps must be inspected for proper torque.

Roof and ground mounted systems would be visually checked for improper installation and issues that could affect performance or safety.

Can you fix my monitoring?

Yes. Solar Medic can troubleshoot monitoring issues and talk directly to the manufacturer’s tech support to correct any issues or change access for new homeowners.

Can you fix my leaky roof?

Ughhh. We can help. We aren’t roofers, but we can help locate the source of the leak. Depending on the source of the leak, it may require removal of solar panels and even the racking to locate it or repair it. We can remove equipment which will make it possible for a roofing contractor to come and fix it. We can caulk and patch, but we aren’t roofers by trade.
